How can I apply?

Our state of the art system means you can do everything online. First, you can use our online calculator to work out how much you want, how much it will cost in total and when you can to pay it back. Next, it will take you about five minutes to fill in our online application form. Using our digital signature technology you can even sign the application without having to print or fax any documents. After you have applied we will request to see your last 6-8 weeks statements if this is your first loan, usually an online process that takes less than two minutes. Then all you have to do is inform your employer or payroll officer and we’ll take care of the rest.

Is a Need Cash Today Loan right for me?

We don’t aim to provide ongoing long term credit. We’re here help New Zealanders with short term cash flow needs for whatever life throws at them. That's why Need Cash Today lets you choose an amount you need and adjust your repayments to fit your situation just right. It's your responsibility to pay the loan back. If you're in doubt, start with seeking financial advice.

What criteria do I need to meet?

Our standard criteria are:

  1. You must be over 18
  2. You must be a New Zealand citizen or resident
  3. You must not be bankrupt
  4. You need to be in ongoing employment, we don’t lend to self-employed or beneficiaries
  5. You need an active bank account that your pay gets credited into on regular paydays
  6. You need access to a computer as the application process is 100% online
  7. You need an active email account
  8. You must own a cell phone
  9. You must complete the online application
  10. You must pass our employer checks

If you meet these then chances are you’ll be approved, though Need Cash Today reserves the right to decline an application for other reasons.

How much am I allowed to borrow?

There are several factors that control how much you can borrow from us. At Need Cash Today, we take our responsibility as an honest and fair lender seriously and want to ensure that you can easily pay your loan back on time. As a policy we only let you borrow an amount where repayments will be less than 40% of your net pay per period and your existing debt repayments must be no more than 48% of your income over a pay period. If you’re a new customer we limit your first loan to $500. After two Moola loans up to $2000.00. After that you could take up to a maximum of $5000. How much will it cost?

We don’t believe in hidden costs, small print or surprises. That’s why we’re upfront about the total fees and interest charged, from the moment you use the sliders to design your loan right through the process. Otherwise take look at our fees page.

How will I get my money?

The money is transferred into your nominated bank account.

How do I repay the loan?

We’ve made repayment easy. We’ll direct debit your account overnight the night before your dated instalment for the amount according to the repayment schedule you’ve chosen. Make sure you’ve got money in there on the specified day/s to avoid default fees and leave the rest up to us.

What details do you need from my employer?

We get that it’s your workplace, but this information is vital to our decision about your loan. We just ask to confirm details (like ongoing employment) of an employee who’s applied for credit from Need Cash Today. The longer it takes us to confirm,the longer it will take you to get your loan, so you can speed this up by contacting payroll and asking them to call us. We take fraud very seriously and this check helps ensure that no one else is using your details to fraudulently obtain a loan.

What if I have trouble repaying?

You should contact us as soon as possible. We can help reschedule your loan and if your circumstances have changed since you applied for your loan, we’ll consider your case with sympathy and try to create an achievable and desirable solution for everyone.

How can I get a bank clearance letter?

You’ll need to call your bank and ask them to email or fax the letter to us. Even though your bank knows your payment has cleared straight away, it is not confirmed for us until the morning of the second working day. A bank clearance letter is a statement from your bank showing us that the payment has cleared and will not dishonour. It means we can give you your next loan on the same day.

BEFORE APPLYING

Do I have to be employed to get a loan?

We can only lend money to people who can pay it back without experiencing financial stress. You need to have been employed for at least one pay cycle to be eligible.

Why do you want me to talk to my employer or payroll officer?

We need to check your application and employment details with them in order to approve your loan. If you talk to them first it can help speed up the approval process. We won’t talk about the amount you are borrowing or any other information. Our privacy policy is very strict and we will only ever ask to confirm the information you have given us. We take fraud very seriously and these checks ensure that no one else is using your details to fraudulently obtain a loan.

Why do I have to tell you why I need the loan?

Legally, we to have to enquire as to why you need the loan to ensure this type of financial product is the best choice for you. Our aim is to help everyday Kiwis with temporary cash flow problems.

Do you need security?

No, we don’t need security but as part of the loan documents we ask you to sign a Wage Deduction Authority.

Can I apply if I do not have a mobile phone?

No, you need a mobile phone to complete your application. We have to send your verification code by text for security reasons. We will also message or call you on this if we need any help with your application, so you should keep your phone on you if possible while we process your loan to get it approved quickly with no hold ups.

What is a Wage Deduction Authority?

To support your loan in case you fail to maintain your side of the agreement by not making payments on the due date/s, you need to sign our Wage Deduction Authority, which enables us to deduct the amount owed to us from your wages, salary, commissions or holiday pay.

If Need Cash Today needs to invoke the Wage Deduction Authority we will present it to your employer (or future employer) and the payment of the loan plus costs will be paid directly by your employer from your wages, salary, commissions or holiday pay to Need Cash Today.

How will I know if you’ve received my loan application?

You’ll receive a text message from us advising we are working on your application.

Can I get a loan if I’m not employed?

No. We can only give loans to people who are in ongoing employment. If you are any of the following then you will fail our pre-approval process:

  1. Beneficiary
  2. Self employed
  3. Unemployed
  4. Pensioner
  5. Disability Beneficiary
Can I apply over the phone?

No, our application process must be done online through our website and cannot be done over the phone. We have made our entire process online as it is quicker and allows us to follow all the necessary protocols and procedures.

What hours are you open?

Our online help team is available between 8:30am and 4:30pm from Monday to Friday (and until 7:30pm Thursdays).

What happens during weekends and public holidays?

We don’t usually open during the weekends or on public holidays, which means that your loan will not be processed until the next working day.

Am I able to get a Need Cash Today loan if I have a bad credit rating?

While bad credit can affect whether you qualify, it will not rule you out. We don’t want to give anyone a loan who will not be able to pay it back comfortably as we take our responsibilities seriously.

How much am I able to borrow?

It all depends on your income, we only let you borrow an amount where repayments will be less than 40% of your net pay per period. Using our online calculator you can work out how much you are able to borrow. If you’re a first time customer the most you can borrow is $500. After that you could borrow up to $5000. We only want to lend to people who are able to service the debt with ease. We don’t want anyone falling further into debt because of our loans.

What if I am in debt already?

If you’re already in debt then we would advise you not to get a Need Cash Today loan. Getting an online loan will only increase your financial responsibilities. You should talk to the Citizens Advice Bureau or go to sorted.co.nz for budgeting advice.

What is a promotion code and where can I get one?

These codes are given out during promotions and can be used to save money on the normal cost of your loan. The code can be entered during the application process. Each has different rules and expiry dates so check to make sure it’s still valid or get in touch with us if you have any questions.

Can I get a loan if my partner has one?

If you meet the criteria and have a separate bank account, email address and cell phone then you will not be restricted by your partner’s loan unless they are having difficulty repaying their loan and we believe lending to you also may put you into a difficult financial situation.

Do I need to have a bank account?

Yes, you need a current and active New Zealand bank account. The account you give us must be the same one that your employer pays your wages/salary into. We will confirm this when we do the payroll confirmation.

APPLICATION AND APPROVAL PROCESS

Why do I have to contact my payroll officer or employer?

Contacting your payroll officer or employer speeds up the process. We need to confirm and verify your details with them and if you have contacted them this will make the process quicker. We will not tell them how much you are borrowing or any other details.

Any delays in contacting your payroll officer or employer will slow down the loan process. We need to confirm these details and will never approve a loan application without contacting your payroll officer or employer.

We take fraud very seriously and these checks ensure that no one else is using your details to fraudulently obtain a loan.

How do I know where my application is at?

You can log into your account on our website to check in on your application. We’ll send you a text message once it’s formally approved or an email if it’s declined. If there are any issues or we need to get more information, we’ll contact you.

If you haven’t heard from us that means we’re still processing your application. Usually the most common hold up is around contacting your employer/payroll. You can speed this up by getting them to contact us.

What do I do if I didn’t receive the text verification code?

Sometimes mobile networks are overloaded and the verification code may take a while to arrive. You can request another code by using the resend button on your application page. If it still hasn’t arrived after some time, make sure that you filled in your phone number correctly and that the phone is on and connected to a network. If you have already had a Need Cash Today loan in the past you need to use the original number you entered then.

What do I do if I didn’t receive the email verification code?

Sometimes networks are overloaded and the verification code may take a while to arrive, or your provider may view the email as spam, so please check all junk and spam email folders. How long will it take for me to be approved?

Our online loan application is quick and clear, the slowest part of the process is contacting the payroll officer, which is why it is good for you to contact them.

Why was I declined?

You will be declined if you:

  1. You provided false or misleading information or withheld relevant information
  2. You’re bankrupt
  3. You’re not in ongoing employment
  4. You already have a payday loan another finance company
  5. We couldn’t successfully verify your personal information
  6. Your contact information or reference information provided on your application is either invalid incorrect or fraudulent
  7. We weren’t able to verify your bank account information
  8. Your bank account number given is not in your name
  9. Your bank account conduct as shown on your bank statement (if requested) shows that you have budgetary and/or existing debt issues
  10. You have adverse or poor credit history and this is confirmed when your bank statement is examined
  11. We were unable to locate or validate your employer
  12. We were unable to get hold of or confirm your personal details with your Employer/Payroll
  13. Your payroll information could not be confirmed by your Employer/Payroll Officer.
What personal details will Need Cash Today need?

We will need to be given basic personal details like your name, age, address, phone numbers, email address, bank account details and employment info. This information is required so we can verify your identity.

It’s vital that you give us the most accurate information you can. Any mistakes or conflicting details will slow the process down. What if I don’t want the loan anymore?

You’ve got five working days from the moment the terms of the loan are disclosed to you to return the loan proceeds to Need Cash Today and cancel your loan agreement. Check the loan agreement for a full statement on the terms and conditions of the loan.

Can I change the amount I have applied for?

If you want to apply for a different amount, we’ll need to cancel your application and start a new one for a different amount. Get in touch with our customer support team on 0800 003 011 and we’ll get it sorted.

ABOUT YOUR LOAN

Why haven’t I received my money?

If you’ve got the formal approval text but haven’t received your money, there may be a few different reasons:

  • You’re with a smaller banks that can’t handle Same Day Payments
  • Application was approved after 4.30pm

If this is the case, money will go into your account overnight.

Otherwise your bank may not be displaying the payment yet. If you can’t see it within 60 minutes, get in touch with them first.

How long does it take to receive the loan?

Once your loan is approved we will transfer the money within 60 minutes. If you are with one of the smaller banks that is not able to handle Same Day Payments, or your application was approved after 4.30pm, the money will be go into your account overnight.

How do I receive the money?

We will put it into your bank account.

How do I find out how much I owe?

Just login to your account section to check this information or call our customer service team on 0800 003 011.

What time will you take the repayment?

The amount due will be taken by direct debit from your bank account overnight the night prior to your dated instalment.

Can I make early repayments?

Yes, you can. We don’t charge any extra fees if you repay your loan early. As the interest is calculated on a daily basis you will only pay the amount accrued until your payment, so you will actually save money.

How much will my loan cost?

At Need Cash Today we tell you all of the costs before you apply, we promise no hidden fees, no small print and no nasty surprises. Using our online calculator you can work out how much you want, how much it will cost in total and when you can pay it back.

Can I add additional funds to my existing loan?

Yes! Criteria apply, such as previous repayment history and ability to repay. Log in to your account home page to see if your loan is eligible for a top up.

What if I am unable to pay on the due date?

If you don’t think you’re going to have enough money in your account for the direct debit, contact us on 0800 003 011 immediately to stop it. We need at least 24 hours notice before the due date to stop it, any later failed payment fees will apply.

How soon can I get another loan?

We only allow our customers to get one loan at a time. This ensures they’re able to service their debt without getting into financial trouble. You can apply for a loan as soon as the final payment on your last one has been reconciled from your bank account, which is generally about 9am on the following day.

Remember that your payment takes two business days to clear so if you want another loan on the same day you will have to give us a bank clearance letter. This can be obtained by calling your bank, or from any branch, and will confirm that your payment has cleared and will not dishonour.

How can I update my bank account details?

If you want to change them for an existing loan then you need to talk to our customer services team on 0800 003 011 and you need to ensure this has been changed with your payroll, if not you need to talk to your payroll officer about the change. If you are reapplying you can change your bank account detail on the application page, again please ensure this has been changed with payroll.

RETURNING CUSTOMERS

If I’m a returning customer do you need to contact my employer or payroll officer again?

Yes possibly, we have to check to see that you are still in permanent employment. If you use us frequently we may consider other ways to confirm this.

It’s much quicker for us to contact your employer or payroll officer than other ways of verifying the information, meaning you get the money you need when you need it.

We take fraud very seriously and these checks ensure that no one else is using your details to fraudulently obtain a loan.

I’ve already had a Need Cash Today loan, why have you declined me now?

We take our responsibilities as a lender seriously and need to consider each loan application on its own merits. Check your email for the specific reason, or call us on 0800 003 011.

How much can I get after I have repaid my last loan?

Depending on your net income per week, once you have had one Need Cash Today loan, you can borrow up to $5000. Use our online calculator to work out exactly how much you are able to borrow. Remember, we can only let you borrow 40% of your income over your pay period.

Can I delete my account so I can apply using a new email address or mobile number?

No, you do not need to delete your account to update your details. You can contact our customer support team on 0800 003 011 and they will help you change your email address or mobile number.

If you need to change any other details you can do this when you reapply for your next loan by changing them on the application page.

I can’t access my old email address and cannot recover a password, what do I do?

You need to contact our customer support team on 0800 003 011 and they will update your email address, then you can use this new email address to login and request a new password.

Can I get another loan before I’ve repaid the last one?

No, we do not give any one customer multiple loans at the same time. We take our responsibilities seriously and having multiple short term loans is not a good way of managing your finances.

How soon can I reapply for a loan?

Once your final payment has been reconciled on your account, which usually happens around 8am the next morning, you can reapply immediately. Remember that your payment takes two business days to clear.

If you want your loan on the same day you will need to show us a bank clearance letter, which is a statement from your bank showing us that the payment has cleared and will not dishonour.

How can I get a bank clearance letter?

If we’ve asked you to get a bank clearance letter you will need to call your bank and ask them to email or fax the letter to us. Even though your bank knows your payment has cleared straight away, it is not confirmed for us until the morning of the second working day. A bank clearance letter is a statement from your bank showing us that the payment has cleared and will not dishonour. It means we can give you your next loan on the same day.

I have repaid my loan but it says I have an outstanding balance, why?

Even if you repaid it overnight, we don’t reconcile until about 9am the next morning. If it is after this time and your payment has not been reconciled, call us on 0800 003 011 and talk to one of our customer support team.
